My grandpa talked to me about the plastic soup and that almost every bit of plastic ever made still exists in one form or other. It never biodegrades, it just breaks into smaller pieces,\u201d she told <em>Keep Britain Tidy<\/em>. &#8220;I thought should I be mad or sad about this? And then I decided to start clearing it up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lilly started <strong>litter picking<\/strong> and posting pictures of the rubbish she collected on her Facebook page to raise awareness. She also started posting videos about the <strong>threats plastic poses to wildlife<\/strong> and calling on people to <strong>refuse single-use plastics<\/strong>, like straws and cutlery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15537\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lillys-Plastic-Pickup-3-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"Lilly's Plastic Pickup\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lillys-Plastic-Pickup-3-cropped.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lillys-Plastic-Pickup-3-cropped-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She even worked with a sustainable straw company called Your Straw to develop a set of <strong>reusable bamboo straws and &#8216;sporks&#8217;<\/strong> &#8211; a spoon and fork in one &#8211; that people can carry in their bag and use on the go &#8211; <em>genius<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s become a <strong>Child Ambassador for HOW Global<\/strong> and a <strong>Youth Ambassador for Plastic Pollution Coalition<\/strong> where she is helping to raise even more awareness on the issue.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15541\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lillys-Plastic-Pickup-4-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"Lilly's Plastic Pickup\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lillys-Plastic-Pickup-4-cropped.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lillys-Plastic-Pickup-4-cropped-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the <strong>18th April 2018<\/strong>, Lilly will turn ten and is celebrating by launching <strong>#LillysGlobalCleanUpDay<\/strong> &#8211; a campaign encouraging people all over the world to litter pick for one day and help make Earth a cleaner place.<\/p>\n<p>Wow &#8211; keep up the good work, Lilly!<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">If you&#8217;d like to see how you can get involved with #LillysGlobalCleanUpDay simply visit her Facebook page: @lillysplasticpickup.<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A nine-year-old girl has started a campaign to get people cleaning up plastic waste.
