Come on gang, let&#8217;s find out about these wonderful wildlife rangers&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a wildlife ranger?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Wildlife rangers work<em> <\/em>tirelessly to <strong>protect wildlife from extinction<\/strong>. In their native countries, these brave people do everything they can to keep <strong>endangered animals<\/strong> like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/uk\/discover\/animals\/general-animals\/elephant-facts\/\">elephants <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/uk\/discover\/animals\/general-animals\/rhinoceros-facts\/\">rhinos<\/a> safe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across the continent of <strong>Africa<\/strong>, rangers are kept busy day and night. In many countries, women are expected to work <strong>in the home<\/strong> (cooking, cleaning, fetching water, and providing for the family). Many women become <strong>wives <\/strong>and <strong>mothers<\/strong> at a young age, which means that they may not have enough <strong>time<\/strong> or <strong>freedom<\/strong>, to take part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-14.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-14.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-190438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-14.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-14-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><figcaption> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, the <strong>hard and dangerous tasks<\/strong> of a wildlife ranger mean that the job is frequently seen as <strong>unsuitable <\/strong>for women. Ranger training can be a <strong>difficult <\/strong>and <strong>physically demanding <\/strong>process, which requires lots of skills that women are not traditionally trained in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, just <strong>11%<\/strong> of wildlife rangers are women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, these women make up many successful <strong>female anti-poaching teams<\/strong> in many countries around the world, including at least <strong>18 African countries<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-4.jpg\" alt=\"a team of female wildlife rangers march forward in rows\" class=\"wp-image-190431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-4.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-4-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So, let&#8217;s meet some of these incredible wildlife-defending women&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nyaradzo Hoto <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nyaradzo is a 29-year-old ranger from the <strong>Akashinga Anti-Poaching Unit <\/strong>in <strong>Zimbabwe<\/strong>. She joined the unit in <strong>2017<\/strong>, and studies <strong>Wildlife Ecology and Conservation <\/strong>at the Chinhoyi University of Technology alongside her job! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Before she became a ranger, Nyaradzo was forced to <strong>drop out of school <\/strong>and get <strong>married<\/strong>. Now, she <strong>earns her own money<\/strong>, and was able to purchase <strong>her own land<\/strong> and <strong>build a house <\/strong>&#8211; something many African women cannot afford to do on their own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sithabile Munenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sithabile is a <strong>Community Scout <\/strong>for the <strong>National Park Rescue<\/strong> in Zimbabwe. But now I have the respect of my community, and I will be able to build my children&#8217;s future.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All-female teams, like Sithabile&#8217;s, often succeed in ways that all-male teams do not. Plus, the job helps women like Sithabile access <strong>education<\/strong>, <strong>healthcare<\/strong>, and <strong>property<\/strong> &#8211; things they may never have got otherwise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Leitah Mkhabela <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Leitah has an incredibly responsible job &#8211; she and her fellow rangers are working hard to create a <strong>danger-free zone <\/strong>for wildlife, that is safe from <strong>poachers <\/strong>and <strong>life-threatening snares<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-5.jpg\" alt=\"a female wildlife ranger scans the night using a torch. it's night time, the bush behind her is dark, she's sitting in an open top jeep wearing khakis. \" class=\"wp-image-190467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-5.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2021\/06\/female-wildlife-rangers-5-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Leitah&#8217;s work with the <strong>Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit <\/strong>in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/uk\/discover\/geography\/countries\/facts-about-south-africa\/\">South Africa<\/a> has already saved the lives of many <strong>endangered animals<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She says: <em>&#8220;when I started as a Black Mamba, people were scared of the training we went through. People said that this training is for men and we couldn&#8217;t do it because we are women. But people started to come around once the impact of the female rangers was clear. It has helped women in community to see themselves differently. There are many more women out there just like Nyaradzo, Sithabile, and Leitah, who are working hard to <strong>make a difference <\/strong>&#8211; to the animals, wild places, and to their communities too! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The founder of &#8216;How Many Elephants&#8217;, adventurer <strong>Holly Budge<\/strong>, teamed up with colleague <strong>Margot Dempsey <\/strong>to create World Female Ranger Day. Holly got to know many female rangers during her campaigns to <strong>save African elephants<\/strong> from illegal poaching. As a result, she knows just how important it is to encourage <strong>more women <\/strong>to get involved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She says: &#8220;<em>We are looking forward to bringing together female rangers around the world to celebrate their incredible work, identify the challenges they face, and provide them with the support they need through our fundraising and awareness efforts.<\/em>&#8221; <em>Amazing! <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So hopefully, World Female Ranger Day will help <strong>support <\/strong>these wonderful wildlife rangers, and <strong>inspire <\/strong>even more women across the world to get involved. <em>Brilliant! <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>If you loved this article, you can find out more on the World Female Ranger Day website.
