Everyone knows that play is fun. But did you know\u00a0that it\u2019s also vital to a child\u2019s development?\u00a0Read on to find out how a new coalition is enabling parents to harness the power of play\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Things have changed a lot since the 1980s, \u201890s and even \u201800s.\u00a0Society, our communities and our lives are different \u2013 and\u00a0childhood has changed immensely, too. Kids now have less time<\/strong>\u00a0and opportunity<\/strong> to play in and around their home, in school and\u00a0in communities. And yet research shows that play is essential<\/strong>\u00a0in building a child\u2019s readiness for the future<\/strong>. It helps develop\u00a0emotional intelligence<\/strong>, creativity<\/strong> and problem solving<\/strong>. And it\u00a0lets children explore<\/strong>, experiment<\/strong>, dream<\/strong> and discover<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why National Geographic<\/strong> has teamed up with IKEA<\/strong>, Dirt Is\u00a0Good<\/strong> (Persil<\/strong> & Omo<\/strong>) and the LEGO Foundation<\/strong> to form the Real\u00a0Play Coalition<\/strong>. We have a shared belief in the power of play<\/strong>. We\u00a0believe that children\u2019s imaginations and their natural ability to play\u00a0together<\/strong>, and with adults<\/strong> in their lives, is the rocket fuel<\/strong> they need\u00a0to boost their skills<\/strong> and passions<\/strong>, and prepare<\/strong> them for the future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Real Play Coalition is working to champion play. We are\u00a0creating a movement that promotes the importance of play.\u00a0And we will support this through the development and sponsorship\u00a0of play-based activities<\/strong> (see opposite) that are accessible to kids\u00a0all around the world. Let\u2019s get our children playing again<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You simply select\u00a0the number of children\u00a0playing, say whether you\u00a0are indoors, outdoors or\u00a0travelling, and input the\u00a0kids\u2019 ages and the amount\u00a0of time you have available.<\/p>\n

The site then shows you\u00a0a personalised selection\u00a0of exciting free activities,\u00a0such as the house of cards\u00a0game below:<\/p>\n
