Carry-on Guides<\/h3>\r\n

\"Girl<\/a><\/p>\r\n

Every August, Girl Guides South Australia<\/strong> create and perform four \u2018gang shows<\/strong>\u2019 at the Shedley Theatre<\/strong>, featuring dancing<\/strong>, songs<\/strong> and hilarious sketches<\/strong>!<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Great Guide Sleepover<\/h3>\r\n

\"Girl<\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Last year, 850 Girl Guides <\/strong>attended the biggest ever festival of Guiding <\/strong>at Taronga Zoo<\/strong>! Before snoozing under the stars, there was an epic dance party<\/strong>, outdoor cinema screening<\/strong> and exclusive bird show<\/strong>! Plus, the Guides raised $22,000<\/strong> to support the gorillas<\/strong>!\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Helping Koalas!<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\"Girl<\/a><\/p>\r\n

Since January, the Girl Guides South Australia Douglas Scrub Campsite<\/strong> has been used as a koala sanctuary <\/strong>for koalas rescued<\/strong> from the bushfires<\/strong>. The Guides have taken part in koala rescue training sessions so they\u2019re koalified <\/em>to help!<\/p>\r\n

Did you know…? There are around 23,000 Australian Girl Guides, who form part of a global network of 10 million girls and young women!<\/em><\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

Dragonfly Drones<\/h3>\r\n

Interested in science <\/strong>and technology<\/strong>? The Dragonfly Drone Guides<\/strong>, led by geologist Dr Gresley Wakelin-King<\/strong>, teach girls how to program<\/strong> and fly drones<\/strong>!\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Birdman Rally<\/h3>\r\n

\"Girl<\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Girl Guides Victoria<\/strong> took on the Birdman Rally<\/strong> at Melbourne’s Moomba Festival<\/strong>, with pilot Madeline jumping three metres<\/strong> into the Yarra River<\/strong>, all for a great cause. Yay!\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Makaira<\/strong>\"Girl<\/a><\/h2>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

NGK: Hi Makaira! How long have you been a Guide?<\/strong>
Makaira<\/strong>: I\u00a0joined Guides when I was just five years old, and now I\u2019m nine – so four years in total!<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

NGK: Why did you join?<\/strong>
Makaira<\/strong>: I was desperate to have some outdoor adventures and wanted a girls-only club to do them in!<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

NGK: What exciting things have you done with Guides?<\/strong>
Makaira: <\/strong>Since joining, I\u2019ve tried loads of new things, like archery and canoeing, and have taken part in Anzac Day<\/strong> and Earth\u00a0 Hour<\/strong> community events.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

NGK: Wow! Sounds exciting! What have you enjoyed the most?<\/strong>
Makaira:<\/strong> I especially enjoyed learning flower arranging then delivering the bouquets to an aged care home. But the thing I love the most is camping!<\/p>\r\n

Rose – Guide name ‘Alkira’<\/h2>\r\n

\"Girl<\/a><\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

NGK: Hi Rose! Is there a story behind your guide name?<\/strong>
Rose:<\/strong> ‘Alkira\u2019 is an aboriginal world for \u2018bright and sunny\u2019. I chose it myself as a young teenage Junior Leader as I just liked the idea of having a cheerful Guide name!<\/p>\r\n

NGK: What do you enjoy most about being a Guide?<\/strong>
Rose:<\/strong> <\/span>I love all the amazing activities, particularly camping and singing around the campfire! It\u2019s also really special to see shy young girls overcome their fears and grow into confident young women!<\/span><\/p>\r\n

NGK: What has been your best experience from Guiding?
<\/span><\/strong>Rose:<\/strong> The everyday moments – like when a parent tells you that \u2018Guide Night\u2019 is their daughter\u2019s favourite night of the week, or when a girl who wouldn\u2019t speak a word develops enough confidence to be in a show on stage!<\/span><\/p>\r\n
