Each month, he’ll suggest top tips <\/strong>for how YOU can help local wildlife, seasonal events <\/strong>to watch out for, or citizen science projects <\/strong>you can get involved with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NGK: Hi Aneeshwar! Welcome to Nat Geo Kids<\/em>! How did you first become interested in conservation? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Aneeshwar: When I was four, my teacher showed us a whale <\/strong>that had died because of plastic pollution<\/a><\/strong>. Its tummy was full of plastic<\/strong>. I remember feeling really upset and shocked<\/strong> that something humans threw away could kill such a huge and beautiful animal. That moment stayed with me and made me want to help wildlife<\/strong> and protect nature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What have been the most exciting moments of your career so far?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Reaching the finals of Britain’s Got Talent <\/strong><\/em>in 2022 by reading my nature poems<\/strong>; visiting NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center<\/strong> in the USA<\/a>, to make a documentary about how space-based technologies <\/strong>can help Earth<\/a>, and receiving my Blue Peter <\/em>gold badge<\/strong> \u2013 they were all unforgettable moments that made me feel proud and grateful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the most exciting moment of all was when the BBC<\/strong> contacted my parents to say I would be working on TV show called Go Wild <\/em>with <\/strong>Steve Backshall<\/strong> <\/a>for CBeebies!<\/p>\n\n\n

What was it like working with Steve? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

During the filming of Go Wild<\/em>, Steve always made sure I felt comfortable<\/strong> and confident<\/strong>. He taught me so much about animals<\/strong>, conservation<\/strong> and filmmaking<\/strong>. Working with him was such an amazing experience because he is kind, supportive and passionate about wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you ever get nervous about presenting or performing? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Not at all. The stage is my happy place<\/strong>! I enjoy sharing my passion with others and encouraging people to care more about our natural world. Plus, I love the adrenaline rush<\/strong> of being on stage! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is your favourite place to see nature in the UK? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I have been visiting RSPB Bempton Cliffs <\/strong>in East Yorkshire <\/strong>since I was three<\/strong>. I’ve had many amazing seabird encounters<\/strong> there and it’s also the place where I filmed my very first seabirds wildlife video<\/strong>. I also love my local nature reserve, Sankey Canal<\/strong>, because it gives me the chance to learn about nature close to home. <\/p>\n\n\n

What about elsewhere in the world? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I love visiting Andhra Pradesh<\/strong> in South India<\/a>. I have seen so much incredible wildlife there, including pelicans<\/strong> and bee-eaters<\/strong>! The region is rich in biodiversity<\/strong>, but what makes the place even more special to me is that my grandparents<\/strong> live there! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You started out making nature videos in your garden. What’s a great way to encourage nature into gardens? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

You can plant wildflower meadows <\/strong>to attract bees<\/strong> and butterflies<\/a>, and add bird feeders<\/strong> and baths <\/strong>to encourage more birds to visit your garden. Most importantly, placing one or two bird boxes <\/strong>can give you the chance to watch birds nesting<\/strong> and raising their chicks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few years ago, we had a robin’s nest <\/strong>in our garden, and we named one of the babies ‘Reggie the Robin<\/strong>‘. Watching them grow taught me so much about nature and helped me feel more connected <\/strong>to wildlife around me. <\/p>\n\n\n

Sweet! Your new column in Nat Geo Kids <\/em>will share more tips like this. Can you give us another example? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Well, one simple action you can take is to walk or ride a bike to school whenever possible<\/strong>, instead of travelling by car. This helps reduce pollution<\/strong> and lowers carbon emissions<\/strong>, which is better for the environment. Small changes<\/strong> in our daily lives can make a big difference when many people work together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your hopes for the future? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

My hope is that animals and humans can live together in peaceful coexistence <\/strong>and harmony<\/strong>. I believe if people learn to respect<\/strong> and understand<\/strong> nature<\/strong> more<\/strong>, we can protect habitats<\/strong> and reduce damage to the environment. My dream is a future where wildlife is safe, valued and able to thrive alongside humans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
