It follows on from the<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><strong>BBC Micro<\/strong>, which helped introduce the nation to computing back in the 1980s &#8211; when computers looked a whole lot\u00a0different to the cool ones we have today!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The micro:bit can be programmed to do a number of different things, it can be a <strong>digital watch<\/strong>, <strong>fitness tracker<\/strong> or a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\"><strong>games console.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BBC-micro-bit-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6328\" src=\"http:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BBC-micro-bit-2.jpg\" alt=\"BBC micro bit\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BBC-micro-bit-2.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BBC-micro-bit-2-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The device features <strong>25 LED lights<\/strong>\u00a0and two programmable buttons, which can be used in game-play or to skip through tracks in a playlist. It also features an on-board <strong>compass<\/strong>\u00a0to track the direction of the wearer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Each micro:bit comes with a <strong>USB<\/strong>, <strong>cable<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>battery holde<\/strong>r.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">To programme a micro:bit, kids simply need to connect it to their computer and add some simple lines of code to create the device they want.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The hope is that all those computer science skills might inspire a new generation of avid game developers, super software programmers and wacky website builders. Your BBC micro:bit could be where it all starts&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"s1\">What can I do with my BBC micro:bit?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BBC-micro-bit-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6327\" src=\"http:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BBC-micro-bit-1.jpg\" alt=\"BBC micro bit\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BBC-micro-bit-1.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2017\/03\/BBC-micro-bit-1-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Fashion<\/strong> \u2013 make a digital watch, brooch or other accessory that can display the time, your own design or message.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Fitness <\/strong>\u2013 count your steps with a DIY version of something like the \u2018Fitbit\u2019, or create an obstacle course and use the micro:bit in a balancing game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Games<\/strong> \u2013 create retro mobile phone games everybody loved like \u2018<em>Snake<\/em>\u2019 or your very own game ideas. Or try using it as a scoreboard or timer for other sorts of games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Music <\/strong>\u2013 connect the micro:bit to your phone and control your music player, compose a piece of music, or even use a banana as a music keyboard!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Cooking<\/strong> \u2013 create a digital egg timer, or attach the micro:bit to a thermometer to get the perfect temperature for your Mary Berry Victoria Sponge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Home &amp; garden <\/strong>\u2013 place a sensor in the soil and connect it to the micro:bit, it can tell you when the plant is happy with a simple smile \ud83d\ude42 or is in need of a drink with a frown \ud83d\ude41<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Check out more BBC micro:bit ideas at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microbit.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">microbit.co.uk<\/a>!<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"s1\">Do you have a BBC micro:bit?
