This fun family-friendly game<\/strong> is packed with awesome illustrations <\/strong>and fascinating facts <\/strong>about Australia\u2019s most weird, wonderful and terrifying creatures!<\/span><\/p>\n

As you play for victory, you\u2019ll get to learn about all kinds of super-cool creatures – from fearsome favourites like the great white sharks<\/strong> and box jellyfish<\/strong>, to the less-known quirkier critters, including the stonefish<\/strong> and bristle worm<\/strong>. Awesome!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

We caught up with TV zoologist<\/strong> and animal-lover Chris Humfrey<\/strong>, who wrote all the fab facts and info for Australia\u2019s Deadly Animals Bingo<\/strong><\/em>! Check out what he had to say about this great game…<\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to write about Australia\u2019s deadly and dangerous native animals for this game?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have always had a fascination for dangerous creatures. I have a vivid memory of a red bellied black snake\u00a0slithering through my legs when I six years old, and I was horrified when my dad\u00a0promptly chopped its head off in front of me\u2026.. to supposedly protect me. I was so sad! The snake didn\u2019t mean me any harm, it was more frightened of me\u2026..and especially my dad\u2019s shovel! Ever since that day, I have vowed to educate people on the importance of protecting all animals, regardless\u00a0whether they are dangerous or not. \u00a0Many animals are\u00a0deadly\u00a0to assist them to survive,\u00a0because\u00a0they live in inhospitable environments such as Australia. You never know when your next meal is going to come along, so your venom, sharp teeth or spines better be effective.\u00a0But hey\u2026 aren\u2019t human beings \u00a0the most dangerous animals of them all?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Do you have a favourite animal in the game? If so, why is it your favourite?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My favourite animal in\u00a0the game is\u00a0the blue-ringed octopus. A tiny nocturnal hunter and,\u00a0believe it or not, a cousin to the snail. This cobalt blue denizen of the intertidal zone is more than capable of killing 26 people with one bite from its lethal beak, which it uses to inject a powerful neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin. But they\u2019re not that evil; they warn you off first by turning a bright warning blue. That\u2019s fair enough!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Have you ever had a dangerous encounter with a deadly animal?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, indeed!\u00a0I once spent four hours sitting up a thin rainforest tree on the side of Mt. Misery in Far North Queensland, being attacked by a male cassowary. Each time I climbed down, he ran\u00a0\u2018full pelt\u2019 at me with his dagger-like\u00a0talons centimetres from my body. \u00a0I clearly\u00a0remember hiding under a large rainforest tree to avoid having its talons try to repeatedly stab me like a\u00a0velociraptor. \u00a0Luckily, I was able to pull myself up into\u00a0the canopy of a tree once again. The cassowary was relentless so I was extremely fortunate to escape with my life\u2026 SERIOUSLY! Luckily, he gave up after a while.<\/p>\n

It was\u00a0the scariest and most life-threatening animal encounter I have ever experienced, but also the best day of my life! I was in his territory; he was obviously protecting his chicks nearby. I love cassowaries so much more now after my dangerous encounter\u2026. WOW!<\/p>\n

Do you think deadly and dangerous Australian animals get bad\/unfair press?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Absolutely! Australian deadly animals always get bad press. More people die from horse accidents, bee stings and dog attacks than snake\u00a0bites in Australia.\u00a0All animals can be dangerous. You need to be respectful and be aware when you are in their territory. Surprisingly, the world\u2019s most toxic venomous land snake, Australia\u2019s Inland Taipan, has never killed a person. In my\u00a0opinion, Australia has the coolest\u00a0animals in\u00a0the world!<\/p>\n

Why is it important that we protect native Australian animals?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Australia has some of the most unique and\u00a0geographically isolated animals in\u00a0the world.\u00a0They have adapted to such harsh and ever-changing conditions. They must be applauded for their survival skills,\u00a0behaviours and adaptations, not maligned and often hated for their potentially dangerous ways. We must protect all living creatures.\u00a0After all, every animal has a job to do\u2026.and an important ecological niche (job). If you take one animal out of the equation, if you lose just one animal to extinction, there could be catastrophic consequences for the\u00a0environment and its\u00a0inhabitants as a\u00a0whole (including\u00a0humans).<\/p>\n

Any top tips for when playing Australia\u2019s Deadly Animals Bingo?!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just remember, I have chosen a few dangerous and down-right\u00a0scary\u00a0animals in my selection\u00a0criteria also (not just deadly). Not all animals in\u00a0the game are deadly to people, but fascinating all the same and GUARANTEED to scare you if you unexpectedly\u00a0stumble across one\u2026.or sit on one\u2026\u2026. in\u00a0the\u00a0Aussie bush. Oh\u2026..one last tip. Don\u2019t play this game with my daughters\u2026.they always cheat LOL!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
