Most jaguars are found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/nz\/discover\/geography\/physical-geography\/amazon-facts\/\">Amazon<\/a> river basin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>3.<\/strong> The name jaguar comes from the Native American word <em>yaguar<\/em>, which means &#8216;he who kills with one leap&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong>4.<\/strong> Their fur is usually tan or orange with black spots, called &#8220;rosettes&#8221; because they are shaped like roses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>5.<\/strong> Jaguars live alone and mark their territory with their waste or by clawing trees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>6.<\/strong> The jaguar\u2019s scientific name is <em>Panthera onca<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>7.<\/strong> Jaguars are mammals. They are carnivores and eat a diet rich in meat and fish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>8.<\/strong> They can live to be 12 to 15 years old in the wild.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>9.<\/strong> Adult jaguars weigh between 45 to 113 kilograms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><strong>10.<\/strong> From the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail, a jaguar can be 240cm long.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Want to learn about other\u00a0<em>roar-some\u00a0<\/em>cats?
