The deep blue Atlantic Ocean<\/strong> that surrounds the Azores is teeming with exciting marine life. It’s home to over 25 types of\u00a0cetaceans<\/strong> (the order of mammals that includes whales and dolphins) – that’s roughly 1\/3<\/strong> of the world’s species!<\/p>\n

Speed across the ocean on a rigid inflatable boat (RIB)<\/strong> as you keep your eyes peeled for the mighty marine creatures gliding through the water. You could spot fin<\/strong>, pilot<\/strong>, sperm whales<\/strong> and many others amongst the ocean waves. How cool is that?<\/p>\n

Swimming with dolphins<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Enjoy an even more intimate experience with the islands’ marine mammals, as you gear up with some snorkels<\/strong> and jump into the water. There, you’ll hopefully get to join playful and highly-intelligent dolphins<\/strong> in their natural environment<\/strong>.\u00a0What a privilege!<\/p>\n

VOLCANIC EXPLORATION IN THE AZORES<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The Azores are located where three tectonic plates<\/strong> (sections of the earth’s crust) meet. Each of the nine<\/strong> volcanic<\/a> islands\u00a0were originally formed by lava erupting<\/strong> from the sea floor as these plates pulled apart, and they remain a\u00a0hotspot<\/em> of geothermal activity<\/strong> to this day!<\/p>\n

Head over to S\u00e3o Miguel Island<\/strong> – the largest island in the Azores. There you’ll find the famous Lake of the Seven Cities<\/strong>. This is actually two<\/em> stunning lakes that have formed inside the crater of a dormant volcano<\/strong>. Amazingly, one is coloured green<\/strong>, and the other one is blue<\/strong>. If you’re feeling adventurous then visit the Ribeira dos Caldeir\u00f5es Natural Park<\/strong>. This area of incredible natural beauty is full of gurgling streams and cascading waterfalls<\/strong>, as the water weaves through the lush green, rocky scenery. These wonders of nature are the perfect place to take some family snaps, or, if you’re a bit of a thrillseeker, to strap yourself in and\u00a0abseil<\/strong> down. Woo hoo!<\/em><\/p>\n

Lava tubes and hot springs<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Visit the\u00a0Gruta do Carv\u00e3o<\/strong>, where you can see the effects of ancient volcanic activity. This a nearly 2km-long tunnel<\/strong> that snakes through the island of\u00a0S\u00e3o Miguel. It was formed as boiling-hot lava<\/strong> cut its way through the rock. But don’t worry, the lava has long since gone. Phew!\u00a0<\/em>Then, experience how\u00a0geothermal activity<\/strong> still affects the islands today, as you bathe in the Azores’ many hot springs<\/strong>. Ahhh bliss!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
