The name applies to a several snakes in the genus <strong><em>Eunectes<\/em><\/strong>, but it is commonly used to refer to one species in particular \u2013 the <strong>green anaconda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When taking into account both weight and length, the green anaconda is the <strong>largest snake in the world<\/strong>, growing up to\u00a0<strong>9m long<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>weighing as much as 227kg<\/strong>. Picture it &#8211; that&#8217;s longer than six ten-year-olds lying head to foot, and heavier than all of them put together!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/anaconda-facts-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3083 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/anaconda-facts-3.jpg\" alt=\"anaconda facts\" width=\"550\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/anaconda-facts-3.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2017\/02\/anaconda-facts-3-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The green anaconda is a member of a family of snakes called <strong>constrictors<\/strong>. Constrictors are not venomous snakes, which means they don&#8217;t kill prey by delivering venom through a bite. Instead, constrictors wrap their bodies around their prey and squeeze until it stops breathing &#8211; yikes!<\/p>\n<p>Once an anaconda has suffocated its victim, it\u2019s time to open wide. And boy does this snake have a gob on it! <strong>Stretchy ligaments<\/strong>\u00a0allow it to open its mouth wide enough to swallow prey whole &#8211; which could be large fish, rodents, caiman (relatives of crocodiles), wild pigs, small deer and even <strong><a href=\"..\/..\/..\/..\/..\/animals\/Jaguar-facts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">jaguars<\/a><\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>Other species of anaconda are smaller in size, and include the <strong>yellow anaconda<\/strong> and the <strong>dark-spotted anaconda.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">What did you make of our anaconda facts?
