Kew Gardens Science Festival!
Prepare for a hands-on scientific adventure with Kew experts…
Calling all budding scientists — the Science Festival at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever!
Nat Geo Kids readers get 20% off entry to Kew Science Festival! To visit using your discount, book tickets at kew.org or call 0844 995 9672*, using the code NGKIDS2017, before 7 August 2017. You’ll find Ts & Cs at the bottom of this page.
Running from the 4 to 6 August, science-mad kids will love exploring the fantastic festival, jam-packed with cool things to see, explore and do in the world of science.
Housed in a huge marquee in front of the majestic Kew Palace, browse the activity stations and meet the real-life scientists whose job it is to discover, study and conserve some of the planet’s most amazing plants.
Have a go at extracting genes from vegetables and learn about plant DNA, try your hand at cloning a cauliflower (yes, really!) and learn how to digitally scan trees.
Get behind the scenes access to Kew’s labs and be wowed by the tiny, ‘microscopic gardens’ that can only be viewed under a microscope and head to the Identification Station and Friendly Fungus area to learn all the weird and wonderful identifying features of plants!
You’ll also get the chance to learn about the awesome conservation work that goes on at Kew and see how scientists discover, study and conserve some of the most fascinating plant life on our planet — and how important they are for our daily lives.
Be sure to keep an eye out for some famous historic faces, Hans Sloane – who first introduced chocolate to Britain (yum!) – and Charles Darwin — the famous naturalist!
Plus there are tonnes of games, activities, tours and talks and not forgetting all the usual fun family activities you’ll find at Kew, all year round. From exploring the treetop walkway – 18m above the ground! – to experiencing life as a bee in ‘The Hive‘.
