And it\u2019s extra nice right now when seeing our friends and family is trickier than usual. Here\u2019s how to make sure your cards are <strong>planet-friendly<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>* <\/strong>Avoid cards that come wrapped in plastic!<br><strong>*<\/strong> Many shop-bought cards have glittery designs which make them un-recyclable. So choose <strong>recyclable cards<\/strong>, or cards made from <strong>recycled materials<\/strong>.<br><strong>*<\/strong> Look out for the<strong> Forest Stewardship Council<\/strong> (FSC) mark. That means the trees the cards are made from are sustainably grown.<br><strong>*<\/strong> Avoid the shops and <strong>create your own cool cards <\/strong>from recyclable materials!<br><strong>*<\/strong> To be super eco-friendly, forget posting cards altogether and <strong>send e-greetings instead<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>D-<em>eco<\/em>-rations!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-deco-1.jpg\" alt=\"Enjoy an eco Christmas\" class=\"wp-image-146466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-deco-1.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-deco-1-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of us already reuse our <strong>Christmas tree decorations<\/strong>, storing them in a box year after year.\u00a0But if you\u2019re thinking of adding more to your collection, avoid plastic ones. Here are our top tips for planet-friendly fandangles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>*<\/strong> Create <strong>homemade decorations<\/strong> \u2013&nbsp;&nbsp;try these <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/uk\/kids-club\/entertainment\/general-entertainment\/make-christmas-tree-biscuit\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>edible ornaments<\/strong><\/a> or this fancy, fragrant <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/uk\/kids-club\/entertainment\/general-entertainment\/how-to-make-a-pomander-craft\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>pomander<\/strong><\/a>!<br><strong>*<\/strong> <strong>Turn off your Xmas lights<\/strong> overnight to save electricity.&nbsp;<br><strong>*<\/strong> Need new lights? <strong>LED <\/strong>ones use less energy!<br>* Use natural items like <strong>holly<\/strong>, <strong>pine cones<\/strong> and <strong>mistletoe <\/strong>for table, mantlepiece&nbsp;&nbsp;and door decorations. Foraging for them is fun, too!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>P<strong>resents<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-letter.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-146467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-letter.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-letter-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a look around your room. How many of your toys do you actually play with every day? Do you really need more stuff? Maybe instead of asking Santa for more toys this year, you could put an \u2018<strong>experience<\/strong>\u2019 on your wish list. Like, a <strong>trip out to a theme park<\/strong> with a friend. Or a <strong>surfing lesson<\/strong>! You can also ask your family to get all their gifts at <strong>online eco-stores <\/strong>this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>Wrapping paper&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-presents.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-146465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-presents.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eco-christmas-guide-presents-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sadly, the snazziest wrapping papers are impossible to recycle \u2013 glittery, glossy, laminated and foil gift wrap will all end up in landfill. Tape, ribbon and bows aren\u2019t eco-friendly either. So try these <strong>wonderful wrappings <\/strong>instead!<br><br><strong>*<\/strong> Save picture pages from <strong>newspapers and magazines<\/strong> to wrap gifts in. Select sports photos for footy fans, recipes for foodies or pics of politicians for news addicts.<br><strong>*<\/strong> Secure your wrappings with<strong> twine or string<\/strong> tied in a bow instead of tape.<br><strong>*<\/strong> <strong>Brown paper<\/strong> can be recycled. Try decorating it with drawings or printed stamps!<br><strong>*<\/strong>Cut gift tags out of <strong>old Christmas cards<\/strong> or magazines.<br><strong>*<\/strong> How about wrapping gifts in <strong>re-usable fabric scarfs s<\/strong>ourced from charity shops? The scarf could be part of the present!<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>TOP TIP! <\/strong><br>Try the scrunch test \u2013 if you scrunch wrapping paper in your hand, and if it stays scrunched it CAN be recycled. But did you know that Christmas is one of the most wasteful times of the year with millions of meals ending up in the bin. Here\u2019s how to have a <strong>planet-friendly dinner<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>*<\/strong> It sounds obvious, but <strong>don\u2019t buy more than you need<\/strong>. And if you do get carried away, store excess food in the freezer or share it with your neighbours via the <strong>Olio app<\/strong>.&nbsp;<br><strong>* Get creative with your leftovers<\/strong>! How about a Christmas pizza with cranberry sauce instead of tomato puree, smothered in turkey, stuffing and left over cheese?
