The Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year<\/strong> competition is one of the world’s top wildlife photography contests, celebrating remarkable photos that capture our wonderful wild world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kids can take part, too, competing to become the Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year!<\/strong> Your images can cover any aspect of nature – from teeny ants and terrific trees to unusual habitats and urban animals. The competition is free to enter<\/strong> and you don’t need hi-tech camera equipment to take part. One of this year’s category winning picture was taken on a smartphone!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 year old<\/strong> Amelie Davis<\/em> <\/strong>won the \u2018Ten Years and Under\u2019 <\/strong>category in the 2026 Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition<\/strong> with this show-stopping<\/strong> shot of a bee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a quick chat with her\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hi Amelie! Congratulations on your win! What made you enter the competition?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been fascinated by animals and insects for as long as I can remember. Then I saw last year\u2019s winner interviewed in National Geographic Kids magazine<\/strong> and was inspired to enter. It feels incredible to have won <\/strong>the 10 Years and Under category<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s your favourite animal to photograph?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I love photographing bees<\/strong>. I find their colours<\/strong>, stripes<\/strong> and furry<\/strong> bodies<\/strong> fascinating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is there another creature you’d love to photograph?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Wild golden eagles<\/strong> are on my bucket list. I\u2019d love to go to Scotland<\/strong> and photograph<\/strong> one soaring through the sky<\/strong> in its natural habitat<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That would be amazing. What do you think makes a great wildlife photo?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I think it should make you feel something<\/strong>. It might capture a really special<\/strong> or fleeting moment<\/strong>, show an animal in a way you haven\u2019t seen before<\/strong>, or tell a story<\/strong> about the natural world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are some things you need to become a great wildlife photographer?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Be curious about the animals you want to photograph. Persevere and be patient <\/strong>\u2013 it will pay off. And know your camera<\/strong>! Learn how your camera or phone works and you\u2019re much more likely to achieve the photo you want when the perfect moment happens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s your top tip for kids looking to get into wildlife photography and enter this year\u2019s competition?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You don\u2019t have to go far to find a great subject. Look in your garden or a local park<\/strong> and just start taking photos<\/strong>, whether that\u2019s on a camera or a phone<\/strong>. If you capture a special moment<\/strong> that makes you think \u2018wow\u2019, enter it<\/strong>! You never know what might happen\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
