Swans, flamingos and pelicans all flock to this region. These are areas where oil and gas can be extracted from the earth and used as fuel. Volcanoes have formed above some of the reserves. But instead of spewing lava, the volcanoes erupt with a muddy mix of water, sand, gas and sometimes oil.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br><\/span>Azerbaijan, the land of fire!<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6017\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6017\" style=\"width: 635px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/azerbaijan-facts-5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6017\" src=\"http:\/\/www.natgeokids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/azerbaijan-facts-5.jpg\" alt=\"azerbaijan facts\" width=\"635\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2016\/11\/azerbaijan-facts-5.jpg 635w, https:\/\/cdn.creatureandcoagency.com\/uploads\/2016\/11\/azerbaijan-facts-5-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6017\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This natural fire, known as Yanar Da\u011f, has been blazing in Azerbaijan for at least 65 years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of Azerbaijan\u2019s most famous sites is <strong>Yanar Da\u011f<\/strong>&nbsp;(or &#8220;<strong>Burning Mountain<\/strong>&#8220;), a natural glowing fire burning on a hillside along the Caspian Sea. True to its name, the mountain has been blazing for at least 65 years! Natural gases seeping through the ground underneath continuously feed the flames, so the fire never goes out. Whilst no one knows for sure where Azerbaijan gets its name from, it\u2019s only fitting that Yanar Da\u011f sits in a country also known as &#8220;<strong>The Land of Fire<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br><\/span>Azerbaijani culture and traditions<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Azerbaijan is home to around ten million people today. For instance, a group of people called the <strong>Talysh<\/strong> make handmade carpets just as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. And traditional music played on a stringed instrument called a <strong>kobuz<\/strong> is still popular. Like the Yanar Da\u011f fire, these time-honored customs aren\u2019t going away anytime soon.
