MONSTER QUESTIONS!

We chatted to Jennifer Killick, author of the Serial Chillers series

Hi Jennifer! Where did the idea for your Serial Chillers books come from?

The books were inspired by the kind of creepy stories that are passed down through generations and whispered at sleepovers or around campfires. The first book in the series was inspired by the well-known legend of Bloody Mary.

What do you like most about writing spooky comedy stories?

It’s just so much fun! I get to imagine the most terrifying, gross and hilarious moments, and then bring them to life on the page.

Cool! If you could visit a mysterious fictional place, where would you go?

I would travel with the Straw Hat crew from the anime and TV series One Piece. They visit so many amazing islands and have the best adventures.

If you could be one of the monsters in your books, who would you be?

I would definitely be Blood-Eyed Mary in the first Serial Chillers book. It’s a dream of mine to live in the woods, wearing crazy clothes and frightening anyone who comes too close!

Haha! Do you have any tips for young horror writers?

Creepy stories are powerful when your readers can get fully lost in each scene and character. It makes the jump scares jumpier, the gross stuff more disgusting and the emotions more exciting! Imagine your scene playing out like a movie in your mind before writing it, and take time to describe the setting and how it makes your characters feel.

Competition time!
