This Ancient Egypt facts primary resource introduces children to fascinating ideas about Ancient Egyptian life. Discover what Egyptian doctors used to treat patients. What did the pharaohs use to make fake beards? How many hieroglyphs were used in the Egyptian alphabet? How much does the Great Pyramid of Giza weigh?

Pupils will have the opportunity to consider lesser known facts about Ancient Egyptian life in our National Geographic Kids’ Ancient Egypt facts primary resource sheet.

The teaching resource can be used in study group tasks, as a printed handout for each pupil, or for display on the interactive whiteboard.

Activity: Ask children to further research some of the facts included in the resource. They could print the resource on A4 paper and stick it to a sheet of A3, drawing in the rest of the Tutankhamen statue and adding seven cool facts of their own from independent research. Pupils could choose their favourite fact from the sheet and use it as the basis for a piece of creative writing about life in Ancient Egypt.

National Curriculum Key Stage 2 History objective:

  • Pupils should be taught about: the achievements of the earliest civilisations – an overview of where and when the first civilisations appeared and a depth study of one of the following: Ancient Sumer; The Indus Valley; Ancient Egypt; The Shang Dynasty of Ancient China
