Dive into a magical adventure this summer!

Charlie has just started a new school and, feeling a little shy, she prefers to escape into a world of books. But when she finds herself transported through the library to a completely different world, she soon embarks on a quest to save the people of the forest from the evil Sheriff – who looks a lot like her mean teacher!

Learning to use a bow and arrow and standing up against the bullies is harder than it looks – but there might be some friends who can help her on the way…

Meet the author behind it all – Ben Miller

We asked NGK website readers to send us questions for Ben Miller…

What research did you do for the book and what’s the weirdest thing you found out? Henry, 8

I did a lot of reading about forests, and one of the strangest things I learned is that the trees communicate with each other via fungi! So if one tree starts getting eaten by insects, it tells the other trees, and they will give off a smell that drives the insects away.

Who is your favourite Robin Hood character in the book? Ada, 10

I love Nathan. He’s a bit nerdy and is really into fungi. He loves it when he becomes a hero!

Why did you pick the age 103/4? Ted, 11

When I was a kid I always used to count the quarters. So I’d say, “I’m seven and a quarter,” because that sounded more impressive than just “I’m seven!”.

Is Robin Hood at this age a lot like you were? Genevieve, 10

Yes, a lot! I used to make my own bow and arrow and play in the fields behind my house. There was only one tree though, so hiding out was tricky!

What do you think are the qualities of a real-life hero? Rheya, 8

Bravery is definitely important. And standing up for what you believe is right. Oh, and good hair.
