Shadow is mysterious and sometimes mean, but deep down he cares about protecting people. And while he may sometimes be Sonic’s rival, he isn’t afraid to help him out, too!
Real-life ‘Hogs!
Sonic and Shadow are hedgehogs with superpowers. But did you know that real-life hedgehogs have amazing abilities, too?
- – Hedgehogs are covered in 7,000 sharp spines that protect them from predators. The pointy prickles are made of keratin – the same material that makes human hair and fingernails.
- – European ‘hogs hibernate each November, snoozing through the cold winter weather. Amazingly, they can slow their breathing down to just a few breaths per hour. Wow!
- – The 30cm-long ‘hogs can walk up to 2km each night in search of beetles, earwigs, worms and other creepy-crawlies to eat.
- – Hardy hedgehogs can also swim, climb and run.
- – Their top speed is 9kmph. Zoom!
